Early Life

Nick Young was born in Los Angeles, California in 1985 to parents Charles and Mae Young. Nick Young started playing basketball at an early age and went on to play for Cleveland High School. For college Nick chose to play for the USC Trojans.

College Career

Young played for the Trojans from 2004 to 2007. He earned a spot on the All-Pac-10 First Team during both the 2005–06 as well as the 2006–07 seasons. Over the course of the 2007 NCAA Tournament, Young helped lead the fifth-seeded Trojans to the Sweet Sixteen, during which they lost to one-seeded North Carolina (74–64). During a quite memorable game/performance, Young led the Trojans in scoring with 22 points when they played the Texas Longhorns in an 87–68 victory. At the time, the Longhorns featured National Player of the Year, Kevin Durant (although Durant himself would end up scoring 30 points).

In lieu of finishing out his college career, Young opted to join the NBA draft. He was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 16th overall pick in the first round of the draft.

NBA Career

Young played for several teams throughout his 12-year NBA career, including the Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and Denver Nuggets. Known for his flashy style and scoring ability, Young was a fan favorite and had several memorable moments throughout his career.

In terms of his career earnings, Young signed his first big contract in 2011 with the Wizards, a five-year deal worth $43.6 million. He then signed a one-year contract with the Lakers in 2013 worth $1.2 million before re-signing with them the following year on a four-year deal worth $21.5 million.

Young's biggest contract came in 2018, when he signed a one-year deal worth $5.2 million with the defending NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors. During the 2018-2019 season, Young played a key role off the bench for the Warriors, helping them reach the NBA Finals for the fifth consecutive season.

Despite being known primarily for his scoring ability, Young also had a reputation for being a bit of a character and was often seen as a fun-loving and entertaining player both on and off the court.

Young was featured on the documentary "Second Chance Season", in which his exploits, successes and shortcomings were further analyzed. Young continues to go by the nickname "Swaggy P", garnering a reputation as a dynamic player on the court, but also in his social dealings.

He previously dated Australian musician Iggy Azalea. Azalea confirmed their relationship in 2014, but the two have since separated.

Young was also previously in a relationship with popular entrepreneur Keonna Green. The two have had two children together — a son named Nick Jr. who was born in 2012, as well as daughter, Navi, who was born in 2016.

Young continues to stay active with humanitarian causes in addition to basketball, founding the Nick Young Foundation, an organization which aims to help fight gang violence, not to mention provide support for gang violence victims through psychiatric services. Young has also voiced his intentions of offering his expertise as a basketball coach to underprivileged children.
