Chris and Kem Reach Number One with 'Little Bit Leave It'

Publish date: 2024-04-28

After becoming everyone’s favourite bromance in the Love Island villa, Chris Hughes and Kem Cetinay are still going strong, releasing their debut single together ‘Little Bit Leave It’ on Monday.

The song quickly soared up the charts, reaching number one on iTunes in a matter of hours. This puts Chris and Kem above Sam Smith, Camilla Cabello, P!nk and Avicii. Who’d have thought it? Kem was quick to tweet about the achievement:

Number #1 in 3 hours HOW HAS THIS HAPPENED! best moment in my life ever!! Support has been crazy? pic.twitter.com/mTSQWatuU2

Check out the song and its, erm, quicky lyric video here:

‘Little Bit Leave It’ comes after the launch of ITV2 show ‘Chris & Kem Straight Outta Love Island’. The fly on the wall documentary follows the newfound rap duo in their first ever live performance at London’s Ministry of Sound nightclub before they head off to Los Angeles. Both episodes are available now on the ITVhub.

CelebMix headed down to watch Chris and Kem’s debut performance. The South London venue was sold-out with fans filling the dance floor, eager to see the Love Island boys in the flesh. The pair’s respective girlfriends Olivia Atwood and Amber Davies could also be spotted supporting the boys from the VIP balcony.

Whilst premiering ‘Little Bit Leave It’, the performance saw the duo joined on stage by rapper Yungen. However, there was some disappointment among fans who were anticipating a Stormzy cameo, following their video chat with him from the Love Island villa.

‘Little Bit Leave It’ has been long in the making. Fans first heard an alternative version of the song when then-trio Run KMC (composed of Chris and Kem plus fellow Islander Marcel Somerville) performed it in the Love Island talent show. The nation fell in love with Chris and Kem’s talent and their passion for rap. Soon after leaving the villa, they signed to Sony’s Relentless Records.

But Chris and Kem’s first release is not without its drama. Fellow Islander, Marcel, reportedly tweeted “@KemCetinay @chrishughes_22 boys the tune sounds sick!!! I hope u did the right thing with the chorus & the bars I wrote. #LittleBitLeaveIt” which suggests that Marcel is after public-recognition of his involvement with the song. However, the tweet has since been deleted and replaced with a simple congratulations:

@KemCetinay @chrishughes_22 I'm Proud of You man!! Big up #LittleBitLeaveIt

Will we be hearing more from Marcel soon?

Chris and Kem have also been called out by rapper Lethal Bizzle who claims that the boys took his phrase and used it to make money. In a video posted on Twitter, Lethal Bizzle says the three “need to have a conversation”.

What can we say? Chris and Kem wouldn’t be true rap stars without a little bit of beef. Set to claim number one at the end of the week, it looks like there’s no stopping the Love Island boys. They didn’t choose the rap life. the rap life chose them.
