Australian rugby union footballer, James Stannard is currently lying in the hospital due to a fractured skull. In early Friday morning, he allegedly received a smack in a one-punch attack by a British man.

At 3 am outside the Coogee kebab store, James became utterly unconscious on the ground. Reportedly, the two were having a ‘nice conversation’ at first and then the man hit him in in an unprovoked attack.

Before the accident happened, James attended a farewell dinner for departing coach Andy Friend. Andy and his teammates Lewis Holland and Ben O’Donnell followed the British attacker, 22, who tried to escape.

Police charged him with the assault and granting him bail. But on the conditions where he should surrender his passport and should give up drinking alcohol.

The British guy gave an interview at the Maroubra police station. Moreover, he has to appear at Waverley local court on 19 April.

Inspector Steven Egbers of Maroubra Police said,

“Two men were talking with each other, seemingly having a nice conversation, and then one of the males has punched the other male in the head area, causing him to fall to the ground, and he’s hit his head in the pavement,”

he added;

“When he fell to the ground, he’s done some damage to the side of his head, and the offender ran off.”

Not only that, the inspector said that the British man had some injuries on his face.

“We don’t know what’s happened there, but the offender did have a couple of injuries. We don’t know how he got those injuries” Inspector Egbers said.

The Inspector also stated that he would be interviewing Stannard who is in stable condition. The Inspector said,

“He’s progressing OK, he’s going to be in the hospital for a little while under observation,” “He’s got a sore head.”
